Educational support for d/hh students in postsecondary education: A CoP Approach
RIT/NTID, a world leader in Deaf education, serves over 1,200 Deaf and hard of hearing students, focusing on STEM fields. A key challenge is the lack of awareness among students and faculty about available resources, linked to varied educational backgrounds and the decentralized nature of support services in U.S. education. The institute provides various accessibility tools and support services, emphasizing the importance of inclusive learning environments. In a training session, attendees will get an overview of accessibility practices, learn about specific supports, and receive training in effective notetaking strategies, encouraging questions and concerns sharing to address unique educational needs. This session aims to enhance understanding and utilization of resources for a more inclusive higher education experience.
